As some of you may know I have been having a terrible time trying to calm down and get feeding a male Western Hognose, he has been sporadically feeding once in 4 weeks but quite a large food item then he just stopped feeding again and returned to being a "hissy" little snake, so I tried something that I usually reserve for this as it certainly wont always work, but it has worked well in the past with my Corns when they seem to "go off" a food item here it is- DAY OLD CHICK LEGS! all I do is defrost the chick first, then with a pair of scissors cut the pair of legs off and then place in to viv. do not try and induce a response if a nervous snake is being fed as mine went mad and refused to feed on chick legs 2 days ago so on the second try I just placed them blood side up and then slightly wetted the snakes hiding place then retreated, slightly confused he emerged and located the chick leg instantly I darent even breathe incase he noticed me! suffice to say he ate that leg and certainly did the same "chewing action" that I noted before. I then waited for him to swallow as far as poss and then placed another leg in by hand and he wasnt botherd about it as he couldnt see me well enough. well I hope that this experience will benefit someone ,try a bird food item they might just like it.
