Hy guys,
Here`s my problem:
I have my pope`s tree viper since last november. At first, it didn`t eat for 3 months, till february. Since then it ate well, every other week. But now, since late september it refuses to eat. I read that specimens from certain populations enter a sort of hibernation in winter and refuse to eat in captivity. The thing is I didn`t lower it`s cage temp and the snake is very active at night.
My question is: Do you think it won`t eat at the moment because it`s winter and that it will start eating again in spring or should it be a reason for me to worry ?
Thanks,
Alex S.

Probably,
Just about all my snakes would do that even with out lowering the temp. The problem with that is if you dont lower the temps the snake will continue to move around and be active and not eat. so it will use up the fat it has stored up before its time to start eating. I know this can be very unerving to wait till it starts to eat. The first snake that did this to me was my first Copperhead it worried me for 3 months. but when it started warming up outside it started to eat agine and the same goes for all the other snakes of mine that do this. Just make sure the snake is well hydrated.

I have several Trimeresurus, all for sale or trade but one, my favorite. He is a white lipped, as most were. He stopped eating 4 months ago. It is winter here, but he stopped before winter arrived. He still look healthy as ever, vet gave a clean bill of health. I try feeding him every other week. I have even added more heat,as well as humidity. But never had a problem the last 1 3/4 yrs with the same set up. He is still active. Im confused.
Did you ever get any helpful info?

Thanks Shane(elapidking81),
I`ll cut the lights and lower the temps for it till late january. The snake looks good and I spray the cage with water daily or even twice a day so it isn`t dehidrated.
Best regards, Alex S.
