I am very interested in learning more about the S.m. streckeri, such as husbandry, and how they react in captivity. From what I already understand, they are somewhat non-confrontational, and relatively small in adult size; does this make them harder to handle? Also what is the LD50 of their venom, and the relative fang size? I obviously have many questions, so if you even might know of some good sites or books, I would appreciate that along with your comments. Thanx, David.

They are small and hooking CAN be iffy at times, I haven't really had any problems. The one thing about pygmy's is that it depends on the individual as to whether or not they have a nasty disposition. Most I've seen act bigger than they really are. Mine were rather feisty, but not a problem....they're only a foot long. As far as fang size, they are huge for the size of the snake. If they could reach 6 foot, I think they would rival any of the big vipers for fang length. Mine also had one hell of a strike, enough to explode the pinkies that they were being fed....blood and parts would splatter everywhere. It made feeding time rather messy. So needless to say, regardlees of their size, you don't want to get bit. Bites are very painful, and they produce some pretty good swelling.
I kept mine in a 24 inch neodesha, with forest floor bark and some plastic plants. A room temp side and a warmer side, 80 degrees should be sufficient, and a water bowl, should do the trick. They are great little snakes and make good captives.
