Hey, brand new to the site. Am getting ready to go out into the field to do some research and hear that there are loads of snakes in Oz. Any advice as to how to best keep out of the way of being bitten? Or is this even a worry? What kind of websites will offer me some photos, etc. I just don't have time to research this and thought maybe someone would have some good advice. Many thanks!

I don't have any Oz snake sites handy, but a quick Google of Australian snakes ought to find you a bunch. Best advice I can give you is to be aware of your surroundings, don't step or place your hands where you cannot see the ground unless it's just not possible to do so, in which case a well protected foot is okay, but watch those unprotected hands. Wear a good quality comfortable boot. If you do see a snake, leave the bloody thing alone & chances are excellent he'll return the favor. Basically, it's just common sense stuff..don't get stupid & you'll probably not get bit.

Thanks so much for the advice. Common sense, really, but it never hurts to hear it. I'll be on my own for a couple of weeks in the outback without radio or sat phone, so that's a bit disturbing, but people will have a general idea of where to find me and if I'm more than a couple of days late, they can at least come find me (or my body to ship home!) ;)
Thanks
