I'm not too far away, about an hour. Copperheads here are not rare. I caught mine (newborn) in my front yard last year. I'm sure if I wanted I could go out in my yard tomorrow and catch an adult or two. Last year alone I caught the Copper, a hognose, a 3' ribbon snake, and a young Texas Rat snake....all in my yard. I released everything but the Copperhead because it was during the drought and he was dying from lack of water. Doing good now though.
