I have a Zhaoermia at my facility for a week or two. Here is a quick 37 sec video of the snake when if arrived at my "Hot" room. More video to follow when it adjusts to it's new surroundings.

NICE AL!! Just to be around one for a couple of weeks would be a real unique experience that few people have with this species. Whose is it?
Thanks for sharing, Rob

Great snakes. Keep 'em on the cool side with a single basking spot for best results. We found that they don't do as well with temps pushing over the mid 70s as an ambient daytime high.

Al,
The malayan pitviper is cool but the puff adder video is more to my taste. Thank god my py puff adders are nothing like your monster ! :) Mine hook well and aren`t realy pissy... Not that I don`t enjoy an agressive snake once in a while but to handle a huge, mad puffy like yours would realy make me crap my pants :) Unfortunatly, that`s exactly how my western diamondback is; someone should realy tell him that vipers should ride the hook well and be slow... I guess my wdb skipped that particular snake behavior class... That`s why I can only handle it with my tongs when taking it out of the cage. I can tail and hook him when I put him back in but there is no way in hell to get him out of the cage using only my hook :)
Gotta love these snakes !
Take care!

Hey Al,
Not sure exactly why I tossed that out there as I know full well that you are a more than capable and experienced keeper. I guess it was more that there just isn't any real literature out there on these snakes (there’s like 5 articles and 2 are in Chinese...LOL), let alone husbandry information, and I was eeking out what has worked well so far for the species in captivity given there are so few and they are so damn temperamental when it comes to thier husbandry. Hoping I didn't come off in the wrong light there Al : )

HI Doug...
No worries... I took it in a positive light as I was was meant. I am STILL learning about all of the snakes I keep, that's why I visit the forums, read all I can and attend the IHS conference. Experience is key because much is not written down and passed verbally from keeper to keeper.
Cheers!

Alex:
That Puffy is a real asshole ALL of the time. This is why I seldom take her out. I had her since she was a few weeks old and never hooked well. My gentle giant tongs are useless with her. I've had many very experienced keepers (more than me) tell me that Puffy's are the most dangerous snakes in their Zoo, including Mambas & Taipans. I've worked TONS of WDB's while I lived in Tuscon, AZ. NOTHING I've every worked comes close to her on a "good day". She is a solid 2,6Kg of muscle and fury. I never heard a snake snap like the first serious strike she let loose with in the video. Whew!! Hope I don't have to take her out for for awhile.

Al,
Too bad I was in such a rush to get back and forth for zoo stuff during the IHS, I really wish we would have had time to hang out.
Yeah those puff adders are ones that still give me a little chill even after all these years. I was joking with Scott from the zoo who brought one home from the IHS/show and I was telling him that's one of the few snakes that you'll be looking at....it'll jerk ever so slightly and you'll say...."damn thing just bit me four times"! Call 'em Bitis for a reason....LOL

New Video with it flexing it's fangs after a meal. It's bloddy fangs are twice as long as my Puff Adders fangs and she is the same length!!
