hey guys, this is kind of a stupid question, but can the small arboreal vipers be kept successfully in "non-arboreal" cages as long as a climbing structure is provided? the reason im asking is because i dont want to buy arboreal cages if i dont have to because i dont plan on keeping many arboreals, mainly terrestrial species. so would i be able to keep the arboreal vipers happy in a 12"-15" tall cage as long as i provide them with something to climb on? thanks in advance for any replies!

i dont currently keep any hots, as im only 15 but i plan to in the future, and i was curious about this. i plan on using Animal Plastics cages and i was just hoping i wouldnt have to get the special arboreal cages that they sell, as they are way more expensive. thanks for the reply!

No problem, i try to help people out. Im only 17 and i have a few hotts, i plan on breeding them. ive been doin it since i was 5years old. You have time to save up some money on cages and everything you need. I get my cages specially made. there called marty made cages with slidding glass doors on the front and a lockable lid on top. Hes a local supplier, in Michigan, idk were your located. But Good luck in the future tho. And be carful, and take your time. I think Arboeral vipers a good starters, like the mangrove snakes also. Thats just my oppinion tho. What kind of snakes or any types of reptiles do you keep now?

im located in Pittsburgh, PA and i currently only have a 1.1 pair of common boas and a beardie because of parental restrictions lol. it sucks because i love all snakes, but hots are definitely my main passion, and i think i could keep some of the less potent species safely very soon here, but theres no way ill be able to keep any hots until i get my own house, as my parents wont let me get any more snakes, and they surely wouldnt even think of letting me get a hot (please excuse the run on sentence lol). however, what i lack in experience i try my best to make up for in reseach and knowledge, which i know doesnt replace hands on experience, but it has to count for something right?

It shouldn't be a problem. I kept white lipped vipers for years in "normal" aquariums. I have several photos if interested. I had lots of live plants, mainly pathos and bamboo. My vipers thrived in these types of setups.
