Hi I am interested in getting into hots. I have never owned any but would like to start with one. I know the basics but there are no places near me so i can get the hours in for a permit. I live in Ca. Please send info on obtainig one in Ca. such as how you got started. Also the best hot for an beginner.Thanx,

move out of california you cannot own exotics
many other states do not need a permit.
florida is good but you need a permit.

Check with your local Game and Fish and see what the laws are exactly. You may be able to keep some local species.
Also, whether you live within city limits may also inhibit your ability to keep venomous reptiles. Check with your area game warden to be sure. Check out the venom chart found on the left navbar of this site to see which species are less toxic than the rest, and choose to go with one of those first.
