Certainly the smaller species like siwinders, twinnspots, longtails, pigmies, and rock rattlers have the least venom and are generally the least dangerous just because they normally don't contain the volume of venom to kill an adult human. But the least toxic per volume wood probably be the blacktail rattlesnake. C. molossus.

Toxicity and volume are two different things. D. typus has a low yield, but the i.v. LD-50 is .071. A low yield has no relevance to the danger a animal can posses. But, yield can add to the punch. Sistrurus m. barbouri is low with 12.5(i.v.), but that depends on where you get bit. Thanks, Tim.

For a general idea on toxicity of rattlesnake species, check out the venom chart on the left navbar of this site.
