how come wild gators kill/attack/maim people but i can not find any captive gators killing anybody in the USA at least recently???
So why r they banned? because to most normal/boring folks they r butt ugly when alive and not part of their $$$ wardrobe?

Never really thought about that.
Are you saying there is now a nation-wide ban in place? I certainly have not heard about this yet! When did this come about?

No, no federal ban on gators , yet.
But usually if state/local ban or extreme regulation is introduced,in 1st step, it includes big warm blooded carnivores, venomous reptiles, crocs/gators and at times large constrictors. (smaller animals legislations are added folowing years after AR divided us and banned big/venomous ones first/already)
But if we never hear of captive gator injuries or deaths, than WTF??? Why are the idiotic politicians falling for the public safety crap??? ban toys, cribs, bleach, parents before exotics if u want to save our (unruly) kids ...
Sory, just trying to find intelligent reasons behind all the exotic bans, and i can't find it, frustration is setting in...

Oh.. ok.. I figured it was a part of that proposal.
Actually, I don’t not think I have EVER heard of death by a captive crocodilian under the care of a private individual.
I have heard of a few incidents at zoos, but I honestly don’t even recall if those incidents happened in the United States, or other countries. These legislative proposals are going way too far, and now it seems like some of these are jokes with how ridiculous they are.
Sooner or later, these morons will be outlawing domestic dogs and cats.
Perhaps flower gardens should be illegal to, as the pose a hazard to those of us with allergies.
Absolutely stupid, and unnecessary.

"Sooner or later, these morons will be outlawing domestic dogs and cats."
I have not looked at stats lately, but we had some run around the site a year or two ago. I would be willing to bet that more people are killed by domestic dogs each year in the US than snake bites, legitimate bites or otherwise.

Yes Charles!
And what about domestic farm animals? I havent seen any solid statistics, but I am willing to bet more "accidents" concerning domestic farm animal owners being trmpled to death each year than by captive venomous snake bite. And cows and horse are "safe animals" because they are not carnivors?

there might not be many 'pet' gators, but many are kept in US private hands for commercial purposes, be it exhibiting/education or meat/skin.

There was a fatality at the Miami Serpentarium in the 60s. A boy fell in an exhibit with a big Nile Croc.
as for gators, they are the single most common donation request we get from the general public at this time. Followed by Burmese Pythons, Boas, iguanas and Caiman...
There are a TON of gators in homes.
Cheers,
Terry
