WEll unless you have 600+ snakes and a clean lab with
a 6,000 dollar freeze drier.
you wont stand any chance selling venom.
But keep them for a hobby is fine.breed them
love them .
but dreams of making money on venom is out of the question most medical facilitys milk there own after all why pay someone else.
dont feel bad everyone thinks the same thing somtimes in the hobby.

Anon is dead right. There are no greater excersizes in futility than a private keeper milking his snakes. It badly stresses the snakes, causing them to go off feed, and hugely increases the chances of being bitten, all for no return whatsoever.
Also, the stools are so small, you keep falling off, and it's really hard to find......

Well Diane, it's a tough biz. The market is pretty much filled for ophidian venoms, you would have to get into something like mole vipers, which are tough to milk. The real market is in the inverts, they're very time consuming and very hard milk. The guy who taught me was milking 7,000 widows a week, under a SCOPE!! You would need a good medical protocol also, for the rattlesnakes, read Manny's article. Lab equipment could run you 50-100,000G's depending on what you what, freeze driers> 7-10G's, freezer(-70C)>5-10G's, centrifuges> 2G's. Then, if you want to fraction the protein you would need HPLC and electrophoresis equipment and years of training in analytical chemistry. Plus, you will need to take care of all your animals, do you know how to medicate properly? Can you afford the av for your snakes, if you keep 30 vials, that could be 24G's(CroFab) and it's a bitch to get. If you would what stuff from others countries, you will need USDA and FDA permits, over a year to get if your lucky. Don't forget the insurance issue too, and the list goes on, I just started, but those are the facts. It can be done, but not on a whim. YEARS of studying, any questions please ask. Tim
