I have read of vermin population problems in China because of the growing appetite for snake meat...are any species experiencing population declines that may lead to extinction any time soon? If so, which are they? Are any other regions in the world experiencing similar, man-caused ecological imbalances?

To my understanding, Burmese pythons are becoming endangered in the wild. I doubt they will ever be extinct due to so many captive specimins, but their natural environment is being destroyed.
