I just wanted to let everybody know that this is my new profile. I`m not 17 amymore so I thought this is more apropiate. I would also like to ask any one of the site`s admins to delete my old profile cause I can`t have the same e-mail on this one. If it`s not to much trouble. Best regards, Alex S.

No need to delete my old profile. I changed the e-mail on the old one and I`ve introduced it to this one. Thanks anyway.

Thanks Al. It is. I got a lot of cool new "toys" to play with for my birthday. A melanistic grass snake, a pinktoe tarantula,2 softshell turtles & 2 love birds(Agapornis roseicolis)-parrots. Also, I got my trip to Greece from my mom, where I caught my self some nice herps and I bought my self my first calli king snake. Pretty soon I`ll be getting a Crotalus viridis. It can`t get better than this. Cheers.

Alex: Happy 18'th Birthday !
Perhaps you can answer a question for me. Years ago, I used to trade snakes with Chris Mattison in South Hampton, England. He went on to write many excellent books on snakes. Anyway, Chris used to make trips to Spain and Greece and Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Romania, hunting herps.
Years ago he sent me two Leopard Snakes, Elaphe situla, from Spain or maybee Greece? At the time I believe they were the only ones ever sent to the US. I have lost touch with Chris.
I was wondering what is the status of Elaphe situla these days? Is anyone breeding them in captivity. Are they still very rare? I have not been able to find anything about them on the internet.
Best Regards JohnZ

Happy birthday, Alex! Was it today, or yesterday? Mine was yesterday. I'm the same age as you are, but with 42 years of added experience. Heehee

Thanks for the good wishes guys and happy birthday to you to Greg. My birthday was on the 29th of april. About Elaphe situla...it`s now Zamenis situla. I have never actualy seen one. I only have it`s closest relative, the aesculapian snake(Zamenis longissimus). I`m not sure how rare it is. It lives in Greece(inlcuding Crete the Sporades and Cyclades islands), other parts of the Balkan peninsula, Italy, Caucasus and Malta. They can be found in captivity in Europe. I`ve been it 2 herping trips to Greece and never saw one. I did read some where that a group of herpers found a dead one in greece last year in May. I also know that hey are picky eaters just like my Z. longissimus. Sorry I can`t be of more help. Best regards to all.

I just saw an add, a pair of cb baby Zamenis situla in Europe is 300 euro. That`s a lot of money.

Alex: Thanks for the update on Zamenis situla. They were very beautyfull snakes. I was not able to breed them in captivity, and they were fragile. Eventually, they died, even though they fed well in captivity.
I hope someday you can find them in your area. From what I remember, Chris found them turning rocks in rock walls in the high country of Spain ?
Best Regards JohnZ
