This is adressed to Tim Friede and others with knowledge in this area. What benefits and negative aspects are there to shooting up with venom?
Also, why is it that some sources say exposure to venom can cause a person to actually be more sensitive when a bite occurs? What processes make it possible to become hypersensitive with certain exposures and to gain immunity with others?
Also, what would you say to someone considering the practice (besides that you shouldn't, etc.).

The first question that you need to ask yourself, is why do you want to do this? I won't comment any further on that because if your reasons are good enough for you, then you will follow through. Just be ready for a great deal of committment. As Tim will readily tell you, SI is a life's work and will take a great amount of time of repeated exposure to the venom(s) that you're trying to immunize yourself to.
Which brings me to your question of how repeated exposure may make one hypersensetive to the venom. As I understand it, people who practice SI inject themselves very frequently to slowly build up an immunity. I believe that we're talking about weekly injections. Hypersensetivity would come with much less frequent exposure to the venom. Your immune system basically wouldn't be producing enough anti-bodies in the event of an envenomation. Or this could cause you to develop an allergy to the venom.
This website has an excelent article regarding sensetivity to venom which I would suggest that you read. I would also suggest a sollid grounding in immunology. Tim and the others who practice SI are quite grounded in toxicology and immunology. They've weighed their reasons and, though they may sometimes come across as a bit off-the-wall, they knew their sh!t before they started this.
Cheers
Roger
PS: Get your AV permits first. That's the only viable safety net.

Howdy Jeremy, very nice q's and I have some answers, but all of them. The benefits are my life, hospital bills, my fingers and I never get sick anymore(very weird). The reason u hear different reports is because certain people guess about it and don't really know. But, everyone has a different make-up and some might not fare well w/ a SI protocol. I'm also doing some ground level work w/ some doc's in cancer research and other areas of disease-type issues. I thought about the hyper-issue and it did concern me, but so did my allergies. I was allergic to spring-type this and that's, spider setae and my rat colonies. As soon as I started SI, NOTHING, sure it could be other issues and I'm aware of this, but I doubt some of them. I believe my IgE dropped mg/ml and this is also a project of mine. But, there is much too do and learn in the future, so I just know this as of now and will know more in years to come. Tim
