It is unusual to find them near the coast, but not out of the question. Crotalus mitchelli mitchelli (Speckled rattlesnake) ranges from Central Nevada to Northern Mexico, and from Central Arizona to Southern California. These rattlesnakes prefer inland, rocky habitats over coastal areas, though may, on rare occasion, be found near the coast. The range of Crotalus michelli mitchelli (Speckled rattlesnake) overlaps the range of Crotalus viridis helleri (Southern Pacific rattlesnake), which IS found near the coast.
