Chris: We just helped Steve identify a black-tailed rattlesnake, and he stated that he did not find the Snakes for Identification section in the Photo Album on his first visit to the website.
It is kind of hidden, and probably would not be readily found by many site visitors. This is apparent in that there are only 4 pages of photos there.
Would it be possible to put Snakes for Identification in the black box on the left along with Reviews, My Profile, Photo Album, Rattlesnakes, Survey, File Library, etc.? In other words, elevate it to species status, LOL. That way site visitors would see it right off, and be more abpt to use it!
Just a thought about a little something that might improve the usefullness of the site.
Best Regards JohnZ

An idea I would heartily endorse.
There's an intimidation factor at work on a lay person who visits a site such as this, where there is such an obvious level of expertise. If, as it appears, you are willing to lend a helping hand to the public, making that willingness more visible would serve everyone's interest.
I thank everyone here for being so helpful to me.

This is certainly possible. What I really need are some people that could specifically work on that area of the site. This would mean that you would REALLY have to know your snakes. Any takers?

Chris: I am willing to help work on the ``snakes for identification`` area of the site. I am perhaps a bit behind the times on some new scientific names, but have a good reference library that I add too reguraly, and I like learning new things.
Do I REALLY know my snakes? Yep, for some parts of the world, anyway.
There are others here who REALLY know other parts of the world, who will jump in.
In the past when snakes needing identification came up, we had many great people helping.
I believe that there are many, many others here who would jump in am help identify snakes posted for identification, based on their level of knowledge for specific areas of the world.
Right now, I check the ``snakes for identification`` of the photo album about once a week. It if were more prominant, I would check it daily for new items.
If you give it a more noticable place on the website, people will find it more readily, and start using it more often. And the site members will jump in and help. If you need specific people to help maintain that part of the site, I am willing to help.
If you just set it where it is easy to find, and where people can post a photo and a locale of a snake for identification, I believe the website members will jump in and make it a very active part of the site.
Just let me know. I am ready to help.
Best Regards JohnZ
