I am building a feeding cage for my snake, a ball python ( I know this is a hot herp website, but I'm desperate ), and I need to know two things. Is it o.k. to build the feeding cage out of pine. I have been told that it is poisonous to snakes, but I don't know if that is only when it is digested. Second, is okay to paint he cage, I am ot sure if it would be toxic or not. Thank you for the help. Oh, and i am sorry for not posting this in the begginer's section, but no one ever responds there.

Hello, I myself do not know anything about building cages but if by a feeding cage you mean something that will just be used to feed the snake seperate from his "home" cage than you may just want to buy a rubber maid type container it may be cheaper and easier. Sorry I cant help otherwise. Oh and Ive also read that some materials can be toxic to snakes not sure if pine is one of them though hopefully someone else will.

Hi,
Pine is fine for snake cages, as long as its not treated.
Painting is also fine if you let the cage air out for a couple of weeks before you introduce the snake to its cage.
