Does anyone have any first hand experience with the "humane" dispach of a snake food item, as there are several different alternatives, I.E C02, and then if it is classed as humane dispatch can I can then humanely kill my excess rodents without causing a law suit from the R.S.P.C.A. for harming mice? bit of a grey area can any one shed light on this one. cheers keyz.p.s. reason 4 asking is that I want to try my Hognose on proper fresh killed food items. He is still sporadically feeding on F/T mice.

As long as you don't tell anyone how it's done, I see no problem. Whatever floats your boat. Now, if you swing 'em by the tail, causing the head to come rapidly in contact with a hard surface, that would do the trick quickly. It would also get some people upset. Re-read the first sentence.

I've heard of three "humane" methods. The first and what is use is the simple table whack. I've had a vet tell me to put the rodent on a screen lid, place a pen or pencil firmly behind its head and give the tail a firm tug. The final methos is with CO2 asphyxiation (sorry if misspeled). The simplest way to do this is place a container with dry ice in a cooler with the rodent. After a while, the O2 will run out.
Contrary to what other say, freezing alive is not that humane.
but then again is being envenomated or constricted humane too?
