My 3 Natrix are absolutly infested now with mites. I have no ideea where they came from. THis happened very recently. I`ll wait a couple of days for them to digest they`re last meal and then I`ll take them out and whipe them with a cloth with frontline. I will also spray the cage with frontilne. I`ll take my spiders in another room for a couple of days.
Thanks,
Alex S.

Martyn and Alex: The treatments for mites you are about to use will kill the mites, but please remember that the mites are attached by their mouth parts to your snakes. When you kill the mites, some of the mouth parts of the mites are usually left attached under the skin of the snake. These mouth parts are seen as foriegn bodys by the immune system of the snake, and it takes a while for them to be disposed of. During this time, the snakes will be not fully cured, and will probably still be lethargic and somewhat sickly. It is kind of like you getting a splinter under your skin, even after you remove the splinter, it takes a while for the festering and infection to go away. Make sure the snakes are hydrated, and watch for signs of infection. The same applys when treating snakes for paracites. When the paracites die, they often release toxins into the system of the host, and those toxins can make the host very ill.
Hope this helps some. JohnZ

Thats cool Trans, I am sorry myself. I have never had to treat anything venomous for mites. (knock on wood) But if I do, trust me, the last thing I would use would be canola oil. I am not that brave! LOL. Anyways, its all cool, and I am sorry for everything. Bryan
