Hi all,
I was just reading the paper posted by Raymond Hoser regarding a new species of elapid found in PNG and I have a few questions regarding it and its placement as well as the fate of the genus Pseudechis.
First, since Australia has banned the exporting of native wild life, would'nt this make the king browns floating around from PNG Pailsus pailsei instead of Pseudechis(Cannia) australis?
Second, are there any other species placed in the genus Pailsus or is this the first?
Third, have any test been done to show the toxcitity of P.pailsei venom or to see what sort of threat it poses to the native people(or vise verse)?
Forth, why were the mojority of black snakes(Pseudechis)moved to the genus Cannia and the Red Bellied Black Snake left to carry the old genus by its self? Are there that many differences between
P.porphyriac and the rest of the Black Snakes?
Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Later,
Jeremy

Disregard any posts by Wolfgang Wuster on taxonomy - especially Hoser matters as he lacks credibility and has an axe to grind.
Wuster's comments re taxonomy aren't even valid within the rules and ethics as published by the ICZN!
