We found a copperhead in our basement. Does it have a mate in our basement or nearby. Do they travel in pairs?

Where there is one there are usually more. They are very social snakes that like to den together, eat in the same general area and drink in the same spots. They are most active this time of year, usually at night if your state is as hot as mine. They will look for cool damp places (like your basement). Try to seal your basement off . You may also want to be concerned with similar areas around your home like brush piles, sheds and heavy growth areas. Also, if you have a rodent problem, get rid of it. Remove the things that are attractive about your place. They should stay away.
I really wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure I'm not the only person who will read this and envy you.
