I was shocked to hear about Steve’s tragic accident. It is unbelievable that he should be killed in such a way. As someone who works with venomous snakes every day, I know the risks that we take in this type of career and I think there is a bond amongst us so whenever I hear of a fellow Herpetologist having an accident I really do worry about them.
No one could have foreseen this terrible tragedy. Steve was incredibly unlucky.
My thoughts are with the family at this time.

We will miss Steve in Poland, too. Waht a personality! One felt he was true - he really loved the strangest creatures and his dangerous work. I spent hours watching "Crocodile Hunter" on Animal Planet.
Terri, I am so sorry. I firmly trust Steve belongs now to the kingdom of the Maker of snakes, crocs and ourselves..

The world is a much better place with someone like Steve in it. How very unfortunate for the rest of us, there is no one else like Steve Irwin.

I have thought about Steve and Terri and Bindi Sue and Bob all day.
My wife and I have discussed the huge impact that he and his family have had on our lives. All of our children have called to see how we were taking the news, clearly upset themselves.
We grew up watching Marlin Perkins and Jacques Cousteau. It wasn't until we were adults and had children of our own that Steve made it onto our television. His enthusiasm and love of wildlife of all kinds was infectious and wonderful to watch. His shows reached millions who, without his personality and showmanship, would never have come to care about wildlife in the way that they have.
Regardless of the many controversies that occasionally have cropped up about Steve, he has spread his love of animals far and wide. My own grandson watches his shows with wonder and awe. I wish I had a fraction of his ability to reach out to the masses with his message of animal conservation.
He was a wonderful advocate for the planet and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of mourning.
Rest In Peace, Steve Irwin, we will miss you.

Steve Irwin was twelve years my junior, yet his legacy was
inbued in me. Since the mid-sixties my handling of
irascible snakes was to pin and grab. Then along comes
this Aussie kid with empathy for the animal. Having had a
decades experience handling animals, including herps, on
TV, I was well aware of the demands and the difficuties.
But, when this guy handled the snakes he made it look
like they wanted to be handled! I tried to emulate his
stress-free technique, and the rewards were immediate. I
have since handled snakes like wild pines and northern
water snakes with impunity, having them become
complacent in my hands. It's still a thrill for this old
herper.
Thanks Steve.

A very sad day indeed. Irwin was a great ambassador for all wildlife. Although his methods and or mannerisms might have been controversial, his love for all animals was always apparent. He has left a great legacy, and will be sorely missed. My condolences to the Irwin family.

Steve Irwin was a passionate advocate for conservation. His efforts have helped many people gain a better understanding of and concern for our wild creaturese and the places they occupy.
Steve will not be forgotten. His legacy will live on, which is the ultimate tribute to the man and his family.
