Steve Irwin has been one of my major idols growing up. I have always respected the fact that he dedicated his entire life to promote conservation for all wildlife and their habitats. I am at a loss for words. The Crocodile Hunter has been a part of my life for years. Steve has shaped certain aspects of my life and his passion for wildlife is what got me turned on to conservation. I really dont know what to say.

Steve Irwin did more to change the longstanding cultural bias' and misunderstandings people have held regarding reptiles than any other person... period. He was a contrversial figure, but his enthusiasm and good nature were contagious. He will be remembered as a family man of courage and conviction. His contribution to the conservation and understanding of reptiles will live on through his work at the Australia Zoo. His impact on those around him and the entire world put him in the status of legendary. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Steve will be missed.

This is a sad day indeed... Though many questioned his tactics; Steve changed alot of the world's negative views on snakes/reptiles. For that we should all (The herp community), owe a debt of gratitude. I am also pleased to see us (the site) honor his life and have this section available and the banner also in his memory.

Steve will always be a hero to me. I have watched the whole family blossom into a beautiful, picture perfect life that could only be envied. Im sure Steve was a one of a kind husband and father. Terri you hit the jack pot being able to be part of Steves incredible journey on earth. I lost my father to murder not that long ago and its tough knowing that your father is not on earth. But what a father to be proud of.Thats real talent. I will always smile when I think of him as he did.He was superhuman. He will always be remembered.I think Terri should research in depth stingrays to portray them the way Steve would. You are the only one that knew him the way you did. You are very lucky to have experienced life with a perfect man. Sincerely, Dawn

I really don't know what to say. Out of all the conservationists Steve was an major icon for me. It was his passion and enthusiasm that taught me if he can speak to the public so can I . He is truely one of the great ones in the field of conservation . Me and my family will miss him . We send our condolances the Irwin
family, and friends at the zoo.
I will never forget you Steve. May your legacy live on in hearts of many.

this is one of the saddest days that the
herp community has ever, and will ever
see. this man has done so much for our
hobby and its a shame he had to go so
young because i know for a fact he would
have been teaching about conservation
and rescuing animals until the day he
died, even if he lived to be 150. he had
such a great passion for animals of all
kinds but especially for those that didnt
have many friends. my prayers will be
with his family and friends, along with the
staff at australia zoo.
RIP Steve

Steve was my mentor, and he didnt no it. I learned alot of things from him. I was looking up to meet him wen i graduated, i was going to fly over there. But i still will.He made the learning fun, and realy educated people, about conservaction. He left behind many memories, and good thoughts. At least he has a good staff back at the zoo. And i give my sorrow to terri, and the family. We are all going to miss him. Rest in Peace steve. And good luck Australia Zoo.

Steve died doing exactly what he loved. I heard him say in an interview that if something happened to him in the course of his work, he will have died a good death, having lived a good life.
Steve was a warrior, he fought intolerance and ignorance in other people, at the same time, engendering compassion and friendship for all the creatures on this world. He has sung his warrior's song and has gone home as a hero.
Mitakuye, Steve, pila miya.
It is done.

You know steve irwin is one of those people that probably reached the most people about the knowledge of conservation since the likes of Jack Hannah. Kids loved the guy and could tell that this man really loved what he did. As weird as it sounds i would rather see him go with God doing what he loves than die in a wreck involving some drunk driver. This guy did a lot in his time and i thank him. R.I.P Steve and Peace be unto your family.
