Anyone with a large adult cottonmouth is typically reluctant to get rid of it. Occasionally though, someone might for the right price and the guarantee of a good home.
Big wild cottonmouths are very elusive creatures. A 3 footer is a more realistic goal. Good luck in your search.

Chris, that is so true. For the exception of the one I found the other night, I had never seen a Wild (Agkistrodon piscivorous), Cottonmouth over 3 Ft. in length. Now I have heard People around here say they have seen them 5 - 6 Ft. Long, but I just chock that up to Misidentification. Personally, think they are Looking at one of the 2 very common Water Snakes that live here about’s.. Now, I know the possibility exist that a 5 ˝ Ft. Cottonmouth could be Swimming the Swamps here “I wish”, but what are the odds of finding it? Wishful thinking on my part, I Dream of Cottonmouth Heaven anyway “LOL”. .................................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

Wally: Big cottonmouths do turn up from time to time. I once found a road kill that had come out from under a bridge in Apalachicola, Florida that was an honest 5 1/2 feet long. It was so big around, I thought it was a truck tire. Its head was bigger than my palm. I should have put that huge snake in a cooler and found some dry ice and brought it home. I bet it had lived in that river there 20 years or more before it decided to venture onto that highway. It must have weighed over 20 LBS.
Over the years I have found many cottonmouths in the wild in the 4 to 4 1/2 foot range, and raised a couple in captivity from babys to over 5 feet, but none of them were any where near as big and heavy as that Florida monster.
So keep looking. They are out there, but they are very rare.
Best Regards JohnZ

I found one once but I didn't take it from the wild.
Here are a couple of pictures.

I've seen a couple over five feet in zoos, one of which had never darkened up much..the juvenile pattern was still clearly evident. George Van Horn has or had one that was over five & had a serious attitude. I bugged him for years to let me trade for or buy that critter, but he never would.
I caught one in about 1969 that was 4 feet ten inches. When I first saw it, I thought it was one coiled on top of the other.
Here in Sofla, adults seem to average about thirty inches.

I KNOW where there are some big ones, but I'm waiting for a chance to get down there myself. I might take one other person with me. Muwhahahahaha!
I just have to finish my snake room!!! I've been in this house for over 2 years now, and it's still not done. SIGH.
